This year Kim Kardashian has sparked some controversy and believe it or not, it’s a little more compelling than her breasts showing through her shirt. Almost half a dozen media influencers have made statements saying that Kim is “our generations Marilyn Monroe.” The list is pretty remarkable seeing that it includes fashion designer Givenchy, creative director Riccardo Tisci, fashion editor Carine Roitfeld and her husband Kanye West.
In an interview with the The Sunday Times, Tisci said he met Kim when she was the just the girlfriend of Kanye.
“I just wanted a moment with her to understand — and I fell in love,” Tisci said. “She’s the Marilyn Monroe of our age. People think she’s like a doll, but actually she’s tough and clever.”
When you first think of Kim, most wouldn’t sum her up as “tough” or “clever,” more like, curvy and sexy, which are also traits that Marilyn was known for.
However, the statement that caused the most controversy came from who other than Kanye himself when he was making media rounds during his “Yeezus” tour.
“I have a love hate relationship with the paparazzi but actually I love them because they empower us over ya know Vanity Fair and Graydon Carter that wanna say Kate Upton is Marilyn Monroe,” Kayne said. “Kate Upton ain’t Marilyn Monroe. Kim is Marilyn Monroe, you know that. She was controversial. She [is] controversial.”
The biggest angle to take when it comes to comparing the two: has Kim been in over 25 films? Before Marilyn died when she was 36 years old, she starred in over 25 films, including “All About Eve” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” where Kim just turned 34 and has been in zero timeless classics.
Another comparison would be the fact that Kim does not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. No reality stars are a part of the historic landmarks simply because there isn’t a category for it, according to spokeswoman, Ana Martinez.
Kanye famously told Jimmy Kimmel that he thought his fiancée should get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in an interview from Oct. 2013.
In general, is being called the next anything that remarkable? Shouldn’t Kim (or should we say Kanye) just be happy being about being the first ever Kim Kardashian? Most would argue that Kanye would say no one could compare to Kim, so why compare her to anyone else.
